Sempai Mark McFadden commenced training in 1980. He participated in local, state and national tournaments from 1982 to 1990, gaining places at the local and state levels, and began teaching Karate in the mid 1980's.
After competing in the Australian Championships in 1990, Sempai McFadden took time out to further his education, career and family. He returned to training in 1996 opening a dojo at the Fraternity Club in Fairy Meadow NSW, and Graded to Shodan (1st Dan) in March 2000. After relocating to the North Coast, Mark opened the Kyokushin Dojo in Lismore NSW in February 2006 and in August 2008 opened a 2nd Dojo in Ballina.
Sempai Jon Ellis commenced training in 1989 with Sensei Ramon Bracamonte in Ballina Northern Rivers. After just one year, he started competing in semi contact kumite tournaments and did so until 1996.
in that time Sempai Ellis trained and competed with the Australian Team and he achieved such titles as:
5 x Queensland State Champion
2 x Australian Open Champion
2 x 3rd place in Australian Championships
Tasman Cup Champion
In 1995 Sempai Ellis was graded by Shihan Howard to Shodan in Sydney.
Sempai Ellis later traveled to Perth, Western Australia to become a personal trainer. While working as a personal trainer, he trained in Ju Jitsu. He continued training on his return to the East Coast. In 2005 Sempai Ellis returned to Ballina and started training in Kyokushin with Sempai Mark McFadden in the Lismore dojo.
He now runs a dojo in Ballina that trains 4 sessions a week including 'Little Lions' kids classes.
